NAHS Initiative - Task and Approach

  • Three-prong approach:
    • Documenting Canada's animal health system as it currently exists
    • Conducting an animal health science foresight exercise
    • Developing the Strategy document

We heard you - Revised Strategy Development Process

  • Four phase process:
  1. Defining the scope of the Strategy (June to September 2007)
  2. Developing strategic objectives and strategic actions (September 2007 to April 2008)
  3. Formally consulting animal health partners (April to July 2008)
    Publication of the National Animal Health Strategy (July/August 2008)
  4. Developing specific action plans (July to December 2008)

NAHS Frame Proposed - Why?

1. Systemic issues raised in Phase One (June to September) can be addressed by this Frame 2. Key focus areas identified at the September workshop are linked to the decision-making process illustrated by this Frame
3. Different roles, responsibilities and accountabilities are linked to each quadrant of the decision-making process
4. Every partner in Canada's animal health and welfare system is involved in one or more quadrants of this Frame
5. Other existing animal health and welfare initiatives use frames compatible with this one

This Workshop's Expected Outcomes

Four Expected Outcomes:

1. Overall refinement of the proposed document
2. Improved version of the proposed strategic objectives and initial indication of their relative priorities
3. Initial discussion on the proposed strategic actions
4. Clear understanding of the next steps until April 2008
